A slower sales market in the South of England has resulted in a rise in the number of accidental landlord entering the market as more people chose to rent their properties out instead of waiting for a sale, it is claimed. One in 12, or 80,000 homes that came onto the rental market in 2017 had been up for sale within the previous six months, according to the latest lettings index report from Countrywide.
